WINTER PREPARATION – STAY INFORMED!!

PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL TO FIND OUT IF SCHOOL IS IN SESSION -When the phone lines get tied up with people calling to see if the school is open or for weather information, we are unable to make or receive emergency phone calls.  Please only call the school if you are leaving a message to report your child’s absence.

Better yet, email amsoffice@sd34.bc.ca and send us an email giving us your child’s absence information.

WINTER PREPARATION – Possible School Closures Due to Weather or Power Outages

In the event of a school closure announcement, information for parents will be available through the following sources:

  1. Local radio stations – Country 107.1 FM or STAR-FM at 98.3 FM

  2. District website at www.sd34.bc.ca

  3. District’s Synervoice communication system, which consists of an automated phone call to each students’ home number or primary contact number.  This will be a district emergency message authorized by the Superintendent and generated through the district office.   The message should be delivered to each home through the automated system by 7:00 a.m. on the day a school closure is in effect.  Please ensure your child’s contact information in the school office, including a parent email address if available, is accurate as the district prepares for this new communication system.

Safe Student Drop-off and Pick-up

With the poor weather conditions, it is even more important that parents respect the following Drop-off and Pick up expectations at AMS:
-please come into the AMS parking lot to drop off and pick up kids
-please don’t park in the school crosswalk while dropping off kids
-please drive slowly through the front and back lots as kids are always present.
-please don’t drop off or pick up kids from the Bevan Lodge parking lot. Emergency vehicles need to have access to that driveway at all times. Unauthorized vehicles will be ticketed.
-please don’t turn left out of our parking lot onto Bevan Ave.

Student Safety

Students are reminded to either remove their headphones while crossing the roads, or to turn the volume down low. Students need to be aware of their surroundings at all times, and being able to hear crossing guards and approaching vehicles is important.
